Customer Service Resume

What the heck is a resume?

Have you ever asked yourself that question?

Are you just like the average person who just picks up a template, fills in a few lines of work history and boring educational information, throws in a few prayers and maybe a little voodoo in hopes of getting a call back?

Well guess what, if your resume looks average, so will you.

Unemployment remains high in almost every part of the world and the competition for jobs is fierce.

Close your eyes for a second and imagine you are the hiring manager to a local company.

Imagine yourself sitting in a chair behind a big desk. To your left you have a computer, and to the right you have a 50 deep stack of white paper with a bold label on top of each that says, “Resume”.

Now imagine going paper after paper and reading line after line of highly sophisticated words that really mean nothing to you.

We are all human, and I can guarantee you that by the 10th paper or so you are probably just going to randomly pick a couple of the first ones you read and hand them to your secretary to schedule an interview.

Ok, you can open your eyes now…

The truth of it all is that you were probably one of those 48 other papers that more than likely got tossed in the trash, or maybe you got special treatment and got put on the shredder.

The point is that unless you figure out a way to stand out from the crowds, the odds are against you.

So what can you do to stand out?

Well, that depends on the job and other factors, but you have to get a little creative. Here are some ideas that should get your mind going:

  • Put some time into your customer service resume. Try to make the writing of your resume a bit easier to read. Make it a bit more entertaining so you don’t bore your potential employee to death. Add some color to the headings and to sections you wish to highlight.
  • Tell a story. Don’t be afraid to be a little edgy, write a small story of yourself and personal work experiences. This will keep you from using to many bullet points and boring lines.
  • Make your paper stand out. When I’m looking for work, I personally spend a few dollars and get my resume professionally printed as a flyer or post card. This is a sure way of standing out and shows your creative side. It rises interest in an employers mind and makes him/her wonder. This will probably be enough to get you to the interview.  Besides, it makes your resume easy to pass around; almost like a business card.
  • Search Google.com for creative customer service resume ideas.

There are hundreds of ways you can make your resume models stand out. Be creative and take a risk.

Remember, you got nothing to loose but everything to gain.
